Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is the most common cause of menstrual disorders, ovarian dysfunctions and infertility in women. It can also cause other clinical symptoms. The main features of the SOPK are:
- irregular or absent ovulation (usually manifested by the absence of menstruation or irregular menstruation);
- an excess of androgenic activity favouring HIRSUTISM (excessive hair growth) and acne;
- Polycystic ovaries (typically seen by a Gynecologic ultrasound).
GynOsitol has two active ingredients: myo-inositol and folic acid. Myo-inositol is a small natural molecule similar to glucose and is involved in the cellular signals of our body. It is naturally synthesized and consumed by humans. Several clinical studies have demonstrated a significant reduction in the SOPK symptoms with supplementation of 4 grams per day. Folic acid or folate is essential, especially in the first 4 weeks of pregnancy, for the normal development of the brain, spine and skull of the fetus. Health Canada recommends that all women wishing to become pregnant take 0.4 gram per day of folic acid.
